Wildfires during the summer months present a permanent and unpredictable threat that can cost both human lives and property, as well as environmental resources and the beauty of the landscape.

A threat coupled with the lack of modern means of coordination, early warning and personalized information creates increased demands on tourism business owners. A crucial factor in shielding visitors and the property of such businesses is proper preparation, specially designed on the knowledge of the local environmental and climatic conditions of the area. This kind of preparation can also lead to proper decision-making in the event that a rural fire occurs in or is directed towards the business premises.

The OMIKRON Environmental Consultants SA in the context of its activities in view of this year's fire season, is organizing information seminars for April, which are held at its office premises by telephone appointment. The service is provided free of charge

Among other things, the update concerns the following:

  • Do all wildfires have the same disastrous effects?
  • What is the risk of starting a fire and how much does it change from the county level to the local scale of my business?
  • Do I need to be on the alert every day or are there specific days on which I need to be vigilant? How do I know what these days are and what I need to do during them?
  • What is the fire behavior and how fast can it travel a distance?
  • How do I know the the local environmental / climatic characteristics of my business and how they influence the risk of starting or behaving in a wildfire?
  • Can I know when a wildfire will reach a dangerous distance, once it has started? Can I estimate the available evacuation time from my business location?
  • Is it possible to know on a daily basis the possible starting points of wildfires near my business?
  • How can i train my executives and staff in firefighting matters to inspire a sense of security for my business visitors?
